Mini Split Repair in Los Angeles, CA
If your ductless system is not cooling, heating, or maintaining the temperature you expect, Connor Air Conditioning & Heating provides professional mini split repair in Los Angeles, CA. Our technicians diagnose ductless system problems carefully so the repair addresses the actual cause instead of simply replacing parts and hoping the problem goes away.
Mini splits depend on several components working together, including the indoor air handler, outdoor unit, refrigerant circuit, electrical controls, sensors, condensate system, and communication wiring. A problem with any one of these areas can affect comfort, efficiency, or the operation of the entire system.
Connor Air has served Southern California homeowners since 1976. Our NATE Certified technicians work with ductless and traditional HVAC systems and provide clear recommendations based on the condition of the equipment and the needs of the home.

Professional Ductless Mini Split Troubleshooting
Ductless systems can sometimes appear to be running normally even when their performance is declining. An indoor unit may still blow air but provide very little cooling. Another unit in a multi-zone system may work correctly while one room remains uncomfortable. Other problems can cause the entire system to shut down or display an error code.
Accurate troubleshooting requires looking beyond the immediate symptom. Depending on the problem, our technicians may evaluate refrigerant performance, electrical components, temperature sensors, indoor and outdoor coils, blower operation, drainage, filters, controls, and communication between system components.
That complete approach is especially important with ductless equipment because replacing a component without identifying the underlying problem can lead to repeat failures.
Common Mini Split Problems We Repair
If your ductless system is behaving differently than it normally does, professional diagnosis can help determine whether the problem is a straightforward repair or a sign of a larger equipment issue.
- Mini split not cooling properly
- System not producing heat
- Indoor unit blowing warm air during cooling mode
- Weak or inconsistent airflow
- Water leaking from the indoor air handler
- Ice forming on the indoor or outdoor unit
- Error codes appearing on the system
- Unusual clicking, buzzing, rattling, or grinding noises
- Indoor unit not responding to the remote or thermostat
- System turning on and off repeatedly
- One zone not maintaining temperature
- Outdoor unit not operating correctly
- Unexpected increases in electricity use
Some symptoms have several possible causes. For example, poor cooling could result from dirty equipment, restricted airflow, a sensor problem, refrigerant issues, electrical faults, or an equipment failure. Testing the system is the best way to determine what is actually happening.
Why Is My Mini Split Leaking Water?
Water leaking from a wall-mounted mini split is a problem that should not be ignored. Condensation normally forms on the indoor coil during cooling operation and is carried safely away through the condensate drainage system. If that drainage process is interrupted, water can begin dripping from the indoor unit or surrounding wall.
Possible causes include a restricted condensate line, drainage problems, installation-related issues, dirty components, or conditions that allow the indoor coil to freeze and later thaw.
Because water can damage drywall, flooring, paint, and nearby furnishings, it is better to have persistent leaking investigated rather than repeatedly cleaning up the moisture.
Why Is My Ductless System Not Cooling?
A mini split that runs without providing enough cooling may have an airflow, refrigerant, electrical, control, or equipment problem. Dirty filters and coils can reduce performance, while sensor or communication problems may prevent the system from responding correctly to temperature changes.
Los Angeles homes can also place very different loads on individual zones. Upstairs rooms, converted garages, additions, home offices, and spaces with large windows or strong afternoon sun may require considerably more cooling than other areas of the property.
If the system previously cooled the room properly and suddenly cannot keep up, that change is worth investigating. If a zone has never maintained temperature well, the problem may involve system sizing, equipment placement, or the original application rather than a failed component.
Single-Zone and Multi-Zone Mini Split Repair
Connor Air services ductless systems used for individual rooms as well as multi-zone configurations serving several areas of a home.
Single-zone systems generally pair one indoor air handler with one outdoor unit. Multi-zone systems can connect several indoor units to one outdoor system, allowing different rooms or areas to operate independently.
Multi-zone troubleshooting can be more involved because a problem affecting one indoor unit may be isolated to that zone, while refrigerant, outdoor-unit, or communication problems can affect several zones at once. Understanding how the complete system is operating helps determine where the problem originates.
Mini Split Repair for Older and Remodeled Los Angeles Homes
Ductless systems are especially useful in Los Angeles properties where conventional ductwork is impractical or where the existing central HVAC system does not adequately serve every room. They are commonly used in additions, converted spaces, upstairs rooms, home offices, guest areas, and older properties with limited space for ductwork.
These applications can also create unique repair considerations. Equipment placement, line-set routing, condensate drainage, electrical connections, sun exposure, and the cooling load of an individual room can all affect how well a ductless system performs.
Connor Air looks at both the equipment and its application in the home. That helps distinguish an actual component failure from a broader comfort or installation issue.
Mini Split Error Codes and Communication Problems
Many modern ductless systems use onboard diagnostics to display error codes when the equipment detects an operating problem. An error code can provide a useful starting point, but it does not always identify the exact component that needs repair.
Communication problems can develop between the indoor unit, outdoor equipment, sensors, controls, and electrical components. Depending on the system, a fault may prevent one zone from operating or cause the entire mini split system to shut down.
Connor Air evaluates the code along with actual system operation. Testing the equipment helps determine whether the problem involves controls, wiring, sensors, electrical components, refrigerant performance, or another condition rather than replacing a component based solely on the displayed code.
Why Is My Mini Split Freezing Up?
Ice on a ductless indoor unit or refrigerant line can indicate that the system is not operating correctly. Restricted airflow, dirty filters or coils, refrigerant-system problems, blower issues, or other operating conditions can contribute to freezing.
If you notice ice, reduced airflow, or declining cooling performance, continuing to operate the system may allow the condition to worsen. Turning the equipment off allows the ice to thaw, but thawing alone does not correct whatever caused the system to freeze.
A technician can evaluate airflow, coil condition, refrigerant-system performance, and other relevant components to determine why the freezing is occurring.
Why Does My Mini Split Keep Turning On and Off?
A ductless system that repeatedly starts and stops may have a control, sensor, electrical, airflow, or equipment problem. In other situations, the behavior may be related to how the system modulates its output as indoor conditions change.
The important question is whether the cycling represents normal operation or a change in performance. If your mini split previously maintained comfortable temperatures but now cycles frequently, struggles to reach the set temperature, or shuts down unexpectedly, the system should be evaluated.
Room conditions can also affect operation. Strong afternoon sun, open doors between conditioned and unconditioned areas, significant insulation differences, or changes in how a space is used can alter the load on an individual zone.
Mini Split Heating Problems
Many ductless mini splits are heat pumps, which means the same system can provide both cooling and heating. A unit that cools properly but does not heat may have a different problem than one that has lost performance in both operating modes.
Heating problems can involve controls, sensors, airflow, electrical components, refrigeration-system operation, or components responsible for changing between heating and cooling. Accurate diagnosis helps determine why the system is not producing the expected temperature before a repair is recommended.
If your Los Angeles home relies on ductless equipment for year-round comfort, changes in either heating or cooling performance should be evaluated rather than assuming the entire system needs replacement.
What Can You Check Before Calling for Mini Split Repair?
There are a few basic things homeowners can check safely before scheduling professional service:
- Confirm the system is set to the intended heating or cooling mode
- Check the temperature setting on the remote or thermostat
- Inspect accessible filters and clean them according to manufacturer recommendations
- Make sure furniture, curtains, or other objects are not blocking the indoor unit
- Check whether an error code is displayed
- Look for visible ice or water around the indoor unit
- Check whether other zones in a multi-zone system are operating normally
- Listen for new or unusually loud operating noises
If the system repeatedly trips a breaker, develops a burning smell, leaks significant amounts of water, or makes severe electrical or mechanical noises, turn the equipment off and arrange for professional service. Electrical and refrigerant-system repairs should be handled by a trained HVAC technician.
Should You Repair or Replace Your Mini Split?
A problem with a ductless system does not automatically mean replacement is necessary. When the equipment remains in reasonable overall condition and the failed component can be repaired reliably, repairing the existing mini split may provide the better value.
Replacement becomes more worth considering when equipment is aging, major components are failing, repair problems are becoming frequent, or the system no longer provides dependable comfort. The availability of replacement components, overall equipment condition, previous repair history, efficiency, and whether the system still fits the needs of the space can all factor into the decision.
If replacement becomes the better long-term option, Connor Air also provides mini split installation in Los Angeles. We can help determine whether replacing the existing equipment, changing the system configuration, or selecting a different ductless solution makes sense for the property.
Mini Split Repair for Los Angeles Home Comfort Challenges
Los Angeles includes an enormous variety of housing styles, and ductless systems are often selected specifically because they can solve comfort problems that are difficult to address with conventional ductwork. Older homes, remodeled properties, additions, detached workspaces, converted garages, upstairs rooms, and other independently used spaces can all benefit from zoned heating and cooling.
Those differences matter when diagnosing performance problems. A west-facing room with substantial afternoon sun may have a very different cooling load than a shaded bedroom. An addition may have different insulation than the original structure. A converted space may place demands on the equipment that were not anticipated when the system was originally selected.
Connor Air considers these conditions when they are relevant to the repair. If the mini split itself has failed, we focus on the equipment problem. If system sizing, placement, drainage, or another application issue is contributing to poor performance, understanding that condition can help prevent repeated repairs that never fully solve the comfort problem.
Protecting Your Ductless System After Repair
Routine care can help protect mini split performance after a repair. Ductless indoor units move room air directly across their filters and coils, so keeping those components clean is especially important for maintaining airflow and efficient operation.
Homeowners can help by checking filters regularly, keeping the indoor unit unobstructed, keeping the outdoor equipment reasonably clear of leaves and debris, and paying attention to changes in airflow, noise, drainage, or temperature performance.
Professional maintenance can go further by evaluating indoor and outdoor coil condition, electrical components, controls, drainage, refrigerant-system performance when appropriate, and overall system operation. Maintenance cannot prevent every failure, but identifying developing problems before they cause a complete loss of heating or cooling can improve reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mini Split Repair in Los Angeles
Why is my mini split running but not cooling?
A mini split may run without cooling properly because of restricted airflow, dirty filters or coils, sensor problems, electrical faults, refrigerant-system issues, or other equipment problems. Testing the system helps determine the actual cause before repairs are recommended.
Why is water leaking from my mini split?
Water leaking from an indoor mini split can be related to condensate drainage problems, dirty components, installation conditions, or a frozen coil that later thaws. Persistent leaking should be inspected because moisture can damage walls, flooring, and nearby furnishings.
Why does my mini split keep freezing?
Freezing can occur because of restricted airflow, dirty filters or coils, refrigerant-system problems, blower issues, or other operating conditions. Allowing the ice to thaw may temporarily remove the symptom, but the underlying cause should still be identified.
Why is my mini split displaying an error code?
Modern ductless systems may display error codes when controls detect an operating problem. The code can help guide diagnosis, but additional testing may be needed to determine whether the problem involves sensors, communication wiring, electrical components, refrigerant performance, or another part of the system.
Can one zone fail while the other mini split zones still work?
Yes. With a multi-zone mini split, a problem can sometimes affect one indoor unit while other zones continue operating. Other problems involving shared outdoor equipment or system communication may affect multiple zones. Diagnosis helps determine whether the problem is isolated or system-wide.
Can you repair a mini split that heats but does not cool?
Yes. A ductless heat pump can sometimes operate correctly in one mode but not the other. Controls, sensors, electrical components, refrigerant-system operation, or components involved in switching between heating and cooling may need to be evaluated.
Should I repair or replace my mini split?
Repair may make sense when the equipment remains in reasonable condition and the problem can be corrected reliably. Replacement may deserve consideration when equipment is aging, major components are failing, repairs are becoming frequent, or the system no longer meets the comfort needs of the space.
Can regular maintenance help prevent mini split problems?
Maintenance cannot prevent every breakdown, but keeping filters and coils clean and checking drainage, electrical components, controls, and overall operation can help identify developing problems and support reliable system performance.

I recently had my complete heating and air conditioning system replaced by Connor. Jarred gave me a good estimate and explained everything that needed to be done. His crew showed up when he said they would, did a great job, and cleaned up at the end of each day. Our system works great and I would highly recommend them to anyone who asks.Posted on Google![]()

They responded quickly to our request for a price. It was much less money than our other bids for the same equipment and labor. They got it all done in about a week and time on site was only part of one morning. We also now have them for the maintenance program.Posted on Google![]()

I called Connor Air & Heating after having a bad experience with Air-tro, who couldn't fix the problem. Eric from Connor came out and over the next three hours diagnosed the problem, replaced the central heating circuit board and thermostat, both of which he had in his truck. Got everything to work....then the fuse on the circuit board started to trip because of excess heat. Turns out he realized I had too many vents closed which caused the unit to turn off. Amazing. Now several days later the heater is working like a charm. I would wholeheartedly recommend Connor Air Conditioning & Heating.Posted on Google![]()
